Scout was a major disappointment for me (I bought an allegedly top-of-the-line hybrid XLE but Toyota chose to give hybrids a shorter 'line' than the non-hybrids.

Scout also would crash with no notification after running for several hours (memory leak probably), so you'd be driving along and get to a turn and it would remain silent (I intentionally had the screen off most of the time).

At least with Google Maps you can tell it to download an area for offline use (with the added benefit that you can do it on Wi-Fi before you even get to the car, and then all it needs cellular data for is traffic conditions and so forth). Even though I told it each morning where we were going, it didn't cache the map. It clearly doesn't cache map data outside of a small radius, and so quickly becomes useless in areas where your cell phone has no data service. I used Scout for a 2000-mile (3 days) drive last spring. For just tooling around town, I have a mild preference for an onboard system. But either of the phone options would have worked OK on trips to unknown places. I prefer an environment where I don't ever have to use the phone unless I want to. I ended up getting the XLE largely to get the Heads Up Display, and at that point getting the onboard Nav package just made sense. Would only have used the phone for onboard nav displayed to the head unit via CarPlay. Alternatively, for the 2019, I considered buying a cheap iPhone and piggybacking its data use on top of my current Verizon wireless account. Did this for 3400 miles with a 2018 Camry and it worked fine.Ĥ.

If I had gone with an LE, I would have used Google Maps on an Android phone and just not worried about piping the audio through to the car while also playing the Sirius radio. I think using it is one of the bigger technology mistakes Toyota has ever made.ģ.

But the level of negativity in reviews of this software should be taken seriously. As one poster noted, you'll find the rare person for whom the software works OK with reasonable reliability. They obviously haven't gone to the Google Play Store or Apple Store to read customer reviews or they would have switched to another vendor ASAP. This was Toyota's vendor of choice for phone app support. With two Camrys that could use Scout GPS, my son and I never even installed it on our phones and thus never used it in the cars. If you consider the XLE with onboard navigation, I just advise using the Nav System on a test drive to find out whether or not you prefer it over phone navs.Ģ. But I'd say Google Maps or other phone apps are easier to use without a lot of learning.

To me, it has more depth than Google Maps (which I just used for 3400 miles when driving a 2018 Camry). It has improved since 2015, including some automatic downloading of data or routes as you drive. I had this in a 2015 Hybrid XLE and was puzzled as to why Toyota only offered it on the V6 in 2018. There's an onboard ("dynamic") navigation package for the XLEs only in 2019. SE and XSE trims have a unique LED signature, a body-coloured chin spoiler and 18-inch alloy wheels-a Corolla first-to emphasize the more athletic stance.1. Just look at the headlight design and the way the front fascia is sculpted. The Corolla looks and feels more dynamic with each new generation, but the 2020 model makes a significant leap forward.

The all-new 2020 Toyota Corolla is set to write the 12th chapter in the big book of the world’s best-selling car.
